Headstocks is a new pop-up cinema based in Bolsover, motivated by a love of film and the local community.
Join them at the Assembly Rooms on September 7th for a star-studded screening of the Elton John biopic, Rocketman (2019). Doors open at 6:30 pm and a selection of snacks and drinks will be available to purchase for a small cost.
The cinema debuted with Pride (2014) at the Assembly Rooms on June 1st, where film fanatics gathered to celebrate the start of Pride Month and commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Miner’s Strike.
When asked about the experience, the director Joel Wileman said: “It was heartwarming to see local people come together in a safe space to enjoy the film and to support key issues that are still relevant within the community today.”
Headstocks are now hard at work planning their first season, to feature a mixture of mainstream favourites, international films and underrepresented stories relevant to the community. It will run through the colder months to provide Bolsover with nighttime entertainment throughout the period. There will be opportunities for the audience to have their say on what films will be screened, so keep an eye on their Facebook and Instagram pages.
The organisers are also looking to venture into cinema hire, with their first private screening scheduled at Palterton Village Hall in November. If you are interested in hosting a film screening for your group or private event, send your enquiry to headstockscinema@gmail.com.
Tickets for Rocketman are £5 plus a small booking fee and can be purchased via the link bit.ly/headstocks-rocketman. The doors will open thirty minutes before the start of the film so arrive within plenty of time to settle in.
People are welcome to bring their own snacks, but all proceeds from refreshment sales will go towards future screenings. If you have any questions or accessibility needs, please reach out to Headstocks via email or social media.
