Bolsover Camera Club
Bolsover Camera Club was founded in 1952 by two young photographers, John Middleton and John Mountain, who, along with Philip Elliott and Arthur Gee, wanted a club that truly reflected their passion. They set up meetings in a small timber-framed bungalow on High Street, creating a welcoming space for local photography enthusiasts. Over the years, the club has played an active role in the town, capturing key events such as the Queen’s Jubilee, firework displays, and parades. It has also collaborated on community projects, including exhibitions with Junction Arts and the Parish Church’s summer flower festival.
Today, Bolsover Camera Club remains a thriving community of photographers of all levels and styles. Meetings are held every Friday from September to May at Hillstown Village Hall, starting at 7.30pm.
Our 73rd season (2025/26) programme will soon be available on our website, along with a fantastic collection of member images. If you’re interested in joining, visit our website for more details. Our forthcoming president will be Annette Crook, and we look forward to welcoming new members!

Bolsover Beats
Last year, Junction Arts had a brilliant idea… what if Bolsover had its very own community samba band? Not just to lead the much-loved Bolsover Lantern Parade, but to create a brand-new musical legacy for the town. And just like that, the dream started to take shape.
In May 2025, the very first band practice took over Bolsover Assembly Hall. Led by samba band leader Mitch Oldham, local residents were invited to come along, pick up an instrument and give it a go. No experience? No problem. Instruments were provided, the sessions were completely free, and all you needed to bring was a bit of enthusiasm and a willingness to make some noise!
Since then, the band has grown to more than 30 members, and what a debut they had! On 29th November 2025, they brought the rhythm (and the volume!) to the Bolsover Lantern Parade. The energy was electric, the beats were booming, and the crowd loved it. So much so that the band has already been snapped up for more local events.
And the rhythm doesn’t stop there… Rehearsals kick off again in February, and new members are always welcome. So, if you’ve ever fancied joining a samba band, now’s your chance to get stuck in and be part of something loud, proud and full of community spirit.
Upcoming dates: 23rd Feb, 23rd March & 20th April. 6.30pm – 8.30pm at Bolsover Assembly Rooms.
